Summer is Coming!

It’s Spring!  We are getting very excited about the upcoming summer and opening our basecamps in early June!  There’s a lot to look forward to, but in talking with our incredible team of program directors and trip leaders (guides), there are three things that stand out.

We are looking forward to bringing young people together in a place far from the shadow of politics, the influence of social media, and the pressures of fitting in.  At NWL we begin each program with a brand-new group of participants and guides.  Some may be attending for the first time, and some may be returning with years of experience, but we embark on our first few days together by defining our new community and deciding who we want to be in this moment, right now.

We are looking forward to introducing our first-time participants to the beauty, endless space, stillness, and sounds of the Temagami region.  From towering, ancient old growth pines and endless waterways to the wondrous depth of the night sky and haunting call of the loon.  At NWL we travel simply and with intention through Temagami’s rugged, time-worn landscape.  We acknowledge its history, teachings and the privilege of connecting deeply to its remarkable gifts.  Most of all, we love sharing and exploring it with the young people we work with!

We are looking forward to providing a safe space for young people to feel seen and connect to their authentic selves.  Our canoe trips provide parallel experiences for each group we work with.  We facilitate the physical journey—the where are we going and how do we get there? right alongside the inner journey—the who are we as a group and who am I (and who do I want to be) within it?  There’s a lot going on and a lot of material to work with on every trip we run!  Using age-appropriate techniques to build community, our experienced guides explore the landscape of the region, unpack the potential of the community, and nurture the growth of the individuals within it!

It gives us goose bumps thinking about all the adventures and self-discovery that awaits.

We hope you can join us!
